My middle daughter just turned 7 and I wanted to make her something handmade for her birthday. I found the cutest little knitted rabbit pattern by Little Cotton Rabbits called bunny girl in a dotty dress a while ago on Pinterest and added it to my Ravelry wish list. Gigi has a favourite teddy and a few special toys that she just adores. She’s one of those kids you has a lovie unlike my other children. Being a girly girl I knew she would love the little cotton rabbit pattern as she has different dresses to make for her as well.
I only managed to make one dress for her but there are 14 designs available on the seasonal dresses pattern package you can purchase separately from the bunny. I made the dress called “summer – little waves dress”. The next one I make will definitely be the lace dress, it’s so pretty.
I love her moss stitch ears and sweet little face. Bunny is sort of a blue/gray colour as I know Giselle’s other favourite toys that are baby pink and white get dirty quickly as they are played with and loved a lot.
Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino was the wool I used and I decided to make her little mary jane style shoes in a gold/mustard so that they looked good with pink and red dresses.
The pattern is so well written and not as hard to make as I thought. The fiddliest part was probably the mary jane shoes and then all the sewing together of the seams and matching up the stripes on her little stocking covered legs.
Did I mention there is also a little bunny boy pattern? He is absolutely adorable and might have to be added to the birthday list for my boy next year. He comes with cute little shorts and a striped jumper.
Unfortunately my little birthday bunny Gigi was sick with a bad vomiting bug for her birthday so there was no cake, hardly any playing and no eating at all. Lucky we hadn’t planned a party for her this year, although a couple of local friends were going to come over for a swim but we cancelled. Lucky we did as my eldest daughter has come down with it this morning. Now I’m just waiting to see if the rest of us to catch it. Hopefully Carrera doesn’t get it for her birthday which is on Tuesday!! Yes their birthdays are 3 days apart, didn’t plan that one well did I !!! Note to self – must organise their birthday presents earlier to avoid last minute rush.
Anyway she loves her little knitted bunny girl and they are totally attached to each other already. It really is a gorgeous pattern and if you end up making one I’m sure the recipient will adore it.
