Every outing we need to take a few water bottles with us and as the Mum I always seem to end up carrying them. Problem solved with this knitted water bottle holder designed by Georgie Hallam of Tikki Knits. The pattern is called “Bishi” an is available to download for free on Ravelry here.
If you’ve been following my blog for a while you’d know that I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Georgie at The Craft Sessions retreat last year. When I came back home I explored her pattern library some more. After already making her Granny’s Favourite cardigan I went on to try a few of her dolly knits like the Rainbow Dress and Dolly Olearia cardigan. Her patterns are so well written and set out that I can’t get enough of them! You should check out her patterns here if you haven’t already. I believe her most popular pattern is the cute Milo vest with over 7,100 projects on Ravelry!
For my daughter’s Bishi I used under one ball of Debbie Bliss Cotton DK in colour #49 which I purchased from Suzy Hausfrau Yarn Store back in 2012. I probably made it a little too long as I was trying to finish it while she was asleep. As the pattern suggests it’s best to measure the strap and stretch factor by filling it with water and then seeing how far you want it to hang down. I offered to change it but Carrera insisted that she liked it that length. It is big enough to fit a big Smiggle water bottle in which is great as they are easy to clean and can also fit ice cubes inside for hot days.
It’s been everywhere with us since I made it – the beach, movies, the park and it seems to not go missing as much. I suppose that means I should make 2 or 3 more for the other kids as I do have some more cotton. Oh well add that to my long list of things to do.
It would also make a great kids birthday party gift complete with a water bottle. Will you be adding a Bishi water bottle holder to your list of things to make?
