I’d seen these funny bearded beanie crochet patterns around Pinterest before and thought it would be a fun project to make sometime. Then I had a couple of friends tagged and emailed me with a photos of it too so I thought I’d move this project to the top of my making list for some fun photos before the little boy gets too big.
The best pattern I found was this one over at Ashlee Marie if you’re interested in making one yourself. The instructions are very clearly separated into the striped beanie and then the bobble beard pattern and the sizes include newborn, infant, baby, toddler, child, teen/adult and extra large adult so very comprehensive.
He loved playing up for the camera in his new hat and being just like his Daddy. My parents were visiting this day so I got him to put it on to great them which was all very funny.
The beard joined pretty neatly and easily to the beanie and depending on the size of your recipient you can combine any size hat with any size beard to accommodate different shaped heads/faces.
I used some of my Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino stash as I have lots of colours to choose from and its nice and soft to be used on the face like this. His Dad has very dark brown hair and currently has a beard so I decided on this brown so that it showed up but didn’t look too funny with his light blonde hair.
It makes a fun addition to the dress up box and could be used for character costumes for school Book Week Parades or even Halloween. I think he looks like a little lumberjack!
Have you seen these hats before? I noticed Ashlee Marie has a funny Santa hat pattern on her website which could be fun to make also.
