2015 Year In Review

2015 Year In Review

Happy New Year!

Here is my yearly collage of top posts from the year. It’s amazing to have 6 of these up on my wall now and it reminds me of how much I’ve achieved when feeling overwhelmed and that not much is getting done besides mothering 4 children and maintaining a big house on acreage filled with lots of animals.

Looking at this collage I can see that there were not too many cakes in 2015. Just the Yorkshire rose cake, my sweet explosion cake, lace cupcakes, poppy Anzac cookies and some ice-cream cookies. My waistline does not reflect the reduction in cakes this year though! haha Even with my new personal training schedule.

Now that my kids are a bit older I wanted to get back into sewing more clothes and I definitely did that with some nice new dresses like the Summer Jazz Dress and this Simplicity 2369 dress.

Quite a few nappy cakes were made last year which is always fun and they do make a great new baby gift.

Star Wars fever came to our house with some amigurumi characters like a Stormtrooper and Master Yoda plus a new blanket and lolly bags.

There was lots of knitting in 2015 after I caught the knitting bug in 2012 and taught myself how to really knit beyond the basic garter scarf. With each new project I have challenged myself and was very happy last year to knit the adorable Ziggy pattern by Tikki Knits for my son in some stunning blue Madelinetosh yarn. The hot pink lace shawl by one of my new favourite designers Ambah was another favourite and a first for me. I loved this project and fantastic pattern so much that I’ve already planned to make two more shawls by Ambah in 2016 with some lovely yarn I received for Christmas. I’m being a good girl though and finishing a few long standing works in progress (WIP) over the holidays before I cast on anything new (as hard as that is). I’ve managed to finish the first long sleeve cardigan for myself in 2015 just before Christmas which was another knitting goal I made myself. It’s just been a bit hot to wear it to photograph so I’m going to wait to blog it.

Lots of crochet pretend food was made for the kids toy kitchen with cute biscuits, eggs and ice-cream cones all added to their toy pantry. The Ice Cream Party was the only party we had last year with a lot going on for me with the Kidspot Voices Competition and making the Top 3 in my category we decided not to have any parties this year. Just try and stop me next year though!

Some cute toys were knitted and crocheted too with a Lalylala Lupo the Lamb and the Little Cotton Rabbits pattern for a sweet little Elephant girl in a dress. There was also a crochet Ninja Turtle backpack which didn’t even make the yearly collage however it was quite a bit of work so worth the mention.

If I was to tell you what I’d like to achieve this new year it would have to be continuing with more sewing projects, knitting my first ever pair of socks, completing the two lace shawls and making time for more cake decorating. There are a few online courses I’m trying to complete as well and with my new reading glasses I’d like to make more time to read.

Do you have any crafty goals for 2016 that you’d like to share with me? Is there a way you keep a record of all the things you make or create through the year?
