Flamingos must be hot right now as I seem to notice them everywhere at the moment. From the cover of Collective Hub magazine issue 29, artworks and garden ornaments to inflatable pool toys. After a quick search over on Ravelry and I found this beautiful pattern to crochet this flamingo to make as a new baby gift to give to my daughter’s teacher who had just welcomed a baby girl.
The gift was inspired by some pretty flamingo muslin fabric that I found at Spotlight. I love making baby wraps out of this fabric to give as gifts and I always have a quick look for any new designs in case I’m asked to make another nappy cake as they are great for helping to hold the structure together. Having not seen this fabric before I snapped up 1.5mtrs of each just in case it sold out and decided I’d be able to make a little flamingo toy to go with it as a little gift for a teacher who has been a fantastic influence on my daughter last year.
The pattern was clear and easy to follow and I loved how the little wings and feathers were created.
As she is for a baby I made her a little bigger by using some 8ply cotton yarn from my stash and a 4mm crochet hook. She looks cuter with safety eyes so she will have to be played with under supervision or used as a decoration on a shelf in her room until she’s a bit older just in case.
The feet were little fiddly to make however they worked out in the end and they remind me of the Muppets for some reason. I can picture them doing a little tap dance!
Missy made a little flamingo card to go with the gift and we wrapped it up in some flamingo wrapping paper I found. See flamingos can be found everywhere.
Have you noticed lots of flamingos lately or is it just me? Do you like birds? If you were to come back as a bird what type of bird would you be? I’d like to be a Galah, not a silly one though! haha
