This has got to one of the prettiest lace dolls dresses I’ve seen or made. The dress is called Dress With Lace Hem by Julie Williams of Little Cotton Rabbits blog and Ravelry store and is part of the Seasonal Dresses pack you can purchase for just over 5GBP (pounds).
In the pack there is a standard pattern template for a dress with two different sleeve options and fourteen dress designs, ranging from easy to more challenging knits. This lace dress is marked as easy however I must say that I tried to make it over a year ago and struggled so I frogged it and waited till I had more time to concentrate.
The lace section at the bottom is worked on first sideways and then you pick up the stitches on the side edge of the lace and then start the dress from the bottom up. For some reason I could not get my head around the lace section a year ago however looking back I think I was using bamboo needles which were not pointy enough and the yarn I was using was splitting so it was causing me a lot of frustration.
The dress is knitted flat so there is some quick seaming up the back and then you add a little button at the top to fasten the dress with.
It was knitted in a couple of days after the kids had gone to bed as I wanted it to be a surprise gift for my daughter for Christmas. She loves and appreciates hand made gifts so much that I think I might make her a new dress every birthday/Christmas until bunny has a whole wardrobe.
I believe the yarn was some Patons cotton from my stash however the band was missing so not 100% sure.
Two of my three daughters have one of these knitted toys (bunny details here and elephant details here) so I’m also going to have to make one for Miss 11 so she doesn’t feel left out. I’m going to make her the fluffy cat with some yarn I picked up over Christmas. The problem with three daughters is that I can never make just one! Not that that is really a problem, haha.
