Pencil Roll

pencil roll

Another party and another present made.  This time it’s was for a boy’s 5th birthday. Pencil rolls are great for making with some small pieces of fabric from your stash.

I just made up the measurements after seeing how many pencils I needed it to hold and then working from the centre out sewed lines every two centimetres which was enough for the pencils to fit in snuggly and not fall out.  Make sure you measure your own pencils in case they are different or you could use textas or crayons too.  The inside is black denim to make the roll a bit firmer and I ironed on fusible padded interfacing for cushioning.  I’ve had this cotton checker plate fabric for while, it was just waiting for the right project.

I used a decorative stitch with my sewing machine on the ties which were folded bias binding.  It takes a bit of extra time but I think it gives it a nice professional look.
