I always wanted to try a crochet toddler or baby hat. After seeing them everywhere I found it hard to actually find the right free online pattern and finally I ended up using this one from luv2crochet.
I used this lovely Empire Merino 8ply yarn I had already in my stash waiting for a project.
You might recognise the crochet star embellishment which was an extra piece I had made previously for my star crochet granny square blanket. I added a big button to the centre to finish it off. I think it is a spare button for a jacket of mine but after tipping all my buttons out (much to my daughter’s delight) it was the best button for the hat.
With the humidity we’ve been having here in Sydney it’s not the right weather yet for this hat but it’s nice to finish a project and cross it off the long list of things I want to make. This would make the cutest gift so I might just have to make another one as my 2 year old is saying “my hat” after using her to model the hat for photos. It’s a really good project for a beginner to crochet and it doesn’t take that long to make either.
