A good friend of mine has her birthday the day after mine so we agreed to get together for dinner and joint birthday celebration with our two families.
My kids had never been to teppanyaki before so when my friend Andé suggested a place close by we couldn’t wait to go and have food thrown at us!
Of course with 6 children between us and 2 birthdays there had to be a cake. Mixing the colours can be quite a workout especially when you’re 6 months pregnant!
I decided to make us an ice cream birthday cake that I had seen in my autographed copy of the Planet Cake book. This is the third cake I have made from this book (others were the lolly pop cake and record player cake) and I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve used the great chocolate mud cake and ganache recipe from it as well.
I ran out of time to get the right size display board but found the perfect substitute for this cake. I used my daughter’s see through plastic high chair tray which was the perfect size. It looked like the ice cream could have just come out of the freezer!
It was quite an easy cake to make all from one 8 inch square chocolate mud cake shaped and covered in dark chocolate ganache and then coloured rolled fondant icing.
I used a circle cookie cutter to make the “bite” mark in the ice cream before these three cuties made some more bite marks in our cake.
Happy Birthday to us!
