At the back of my husbands man shed is a fenced pen that once kept the previous owners greyhound but is now home to our two chooks Caramel and Chocolate. We had a pretty small coop at our old house and needed something bigger and easier to access and clean. Stepping up to the task was my crafty husband (Craftsmanship!).
This is their ladder or steps up to the front door of their new coop. My husband designed the whole coop in his head and made it all by himself.
… with two hinged doors at the front for easy access to the yummy free range eggs our girls lay.
They did have a bit of a break from laying their eggs but now they are used to their new coop and are back to laying one egg each a day.
In this picture you can see a white rope handle at the bottom right hand side of the coop. With a pull of the handle the mesh bottom can be pulled out for cleaning and the old straw will drop to the ground. You can also see their roosting pole for them to sleep on.
I can’t believe what a fabulous job he has done all by himself. The only credit I can take is that I kept the kids busy so that he could get on with his creating! What a handyman he is.
Soon we hope to get a couple more chooks now that we have a bigger space to keep them. It would be nice to have a bit more of a variety in there with some pretty black and white chickens too. What a clever hubby I have. I’m very impressed, aren’t you?
