Here are the Hello Kitty felted lolly bags that I made for our Hello Kitty party. The girls at the party were given pink felt bags and the boys got black felt bags with Hello Kitty’s boyfriend Dear Daniel on them. With a girly themed party and a few boys coming I didn’t want to give them pink bags with Hello Kitty so I’m glad I learnt of her super cute boyfriend!
Hello Kitty is such a simple four colour design that I thought it would be a great design to try and felt using my Pfaff felting machine. Cutting out the tiny, tiny shapes took the longest. I used a paper template to make sure that I placed the eyes in the right position (like I did with the Hello Kitty cake). With the bow I thought it would be cute if only the circle in the middle was felted so that the sides of the bow would lift up and add a bit of dimension.
To tie the Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel lolly bags I used a stanley knife and slashed 6 cuts on either side of the bag so that I could thread some ribbon through the top of the bag and then tie it into a bow at the front. The great thing about felt is that it doesn’t fray so for the edges of the bag I used pinking shears and then only had to sew a straight line down each side to make the bag.
I found some really cute Hello Kitty lollies to put inside the bags. Pez! Do you remember them as a kid? I loved them and when I found these Hello Kitty Pez dispensers I knew they would be perfect for inside the lolly bags. Inside there was also a lollypop ring, keychain with lollies inside and a Hello Kitty candy necklace.
Here is a close up of the Dear Daniel bags. I felted his bow tie the same way that I felted Hello Kitty’s bow to add dimension to him also.
