Crochet Cable Hat

baby bear crochet hat

Z boy doesn’t fit into his crochet cable hat I made him last year (link here) so I made him another one as it is such a super cute pattern.

The pattern is from  Two Girls Patterns and I just love how the cables are constructed, it’s so clever. The only down side is that because the hat is crocheted from one side to the other with the cables down the middle you have to get the size right as it’s too hard to add an extra row or two as then the cables will not be centred at the front. I measured his head and worked it out but as this is cotton yarn it does stretch a bit so he does have a bit of room to grow into it.

The yarn I used was some lovely Morris & Sons Empire in 10ply and I must say when I saw the range of colours in the flesh the other week they were just beautiful. Loved this green and also have some azure type blue which he will look so handsome in.

The yarn gives such great stitch definition compared to his last hat which I made in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran. The cotton is nice cosy but still cool enough that he actually kept it on his head for ages, where as I think the wool can sometimes get too much for inside the house all day.

I did add a little single crochet around the bottom edge to make it a bit neater too.

I love this hat sooo much and it looks so cute on my baby bear. Well he’s not really a baby anymore, this weekend he turns 2!!! Part of me (read alot) is very sad about this as he is my last baby and such a cutie pie. Excuse me now while I go wipe my tears away and sneak in a cuddle with my boy.
