Elephant Lovie Security Blanket Toy

This has got to be one of the cutest patterns to make for a baby girl. I bookmarked this One and Two Company Elephant Lovie Security Blanket Toy pattern and was just waiting for the perfect little baby girl to give it to. Then our little friend Lola arrived! Perfect.

Elephant has been finished for a while and I was waiting to meet this new little human and give it to her personally but realising that schedules will not permit this to happen for a while so I posted it off to her and can now share her cuteness on the blog. You may have seen sneak peaks of her over on my Instagram over 2 months ago but I didn’t want to spoil the surprise too much until she was gifted.

Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino was my yarn of choice in slate 09 for the main part of the elephant and then candy pink 06 and lipstick pink 78 for the blanket part of the lovie and her little flower. I have so many colours of this yarn and really enjoy working with it. The colour choices are fantastic. You may remember this crochet African flower cushion I made using the same yarn.

I was going to use thread eyes to make it a bit safer for little ones but after I marked the eye placement with some yarn it occurred to me that it would look super cute if I left the yarn “markers” in and put safety eyes over the top so that the yarn looked like eyelashes. She looks so feminine now with her little crochet flower in her ear and long eyelashes and I’m sure she’ll be fine.

The toy part consists of two arms and the head with ears which you make first and then join them to the centre of the granny square blanket you crochet. These type of toys/lovies are great as they serve as two purposes being both a lovie/mini blanket and a toy. My babies loved toys like this when they were little.

The edge of the granny square blanket is finished with a simple scallop edge in the darker pink. Love pink and grey together.

The pattern is really clear and well written and I’m positive I’ll be making this again. Isn’t she the sweetest?

Hope little Lola likes it!
