Spotlight National Craft Month has begun for the second year and runs from now until the 29th of March. There are five mini festivals that will take place during the craft month and they cover many different crafts. I was lucky enough to be flown to Melbourne last week to attend a preview of what will be happening for the Spotlight National Craft Month at a Bloggers Preview Event.
The five festivals are as follows: –
Art & Craft Fest 28th Feb – 1st of March
We explored a great new one step tie-dye range by Tulip. There were also porcelain paints and fabric spray paints to try out. This is a whole crafty world that I haven’t delved into much however I can see that changing in my near future!
Sew & Quilt Fest 7th – 8th March
Beautiful fabric displays and crafty button and jewellery inspiration were aplenty here. Love the Cloud 9 range of quilting fabrics.
Cake Fest – 14 – 15th March
Precoloured Satin Ice rolled fondant in small packs were available to try. If you’ve ever tried to mix your own red fondant you will appreciate this. I’ve noticed Spotlight’s cake decorating section really expand over the last couple of years which is great when you need something in a hurry. Demonstrations were happening on how to make rolled fondant roses for those that didn’t already now how to.
Yarn Fest – 21st – 22nd March
I had a lovely chat to the lady at the Yarn Fest stand and took home a couple of new release pattern books to try out. She was finger knitting which is my middle daughter’s favourite craft at the moment. The dream catcher pattern looks very pretty to make.
Scrap Fest 28th – 29th March
Now I’m not a big scrapbooker although I do love to create cards and paper gifts. The standout item at this display were the fantastic new Marquee Love letters by Heidi Swapp. You may have noticed the decorated “Spotlight” ones in the first photo on this blog post. Don’t they look fantastic? Basically you decorate the cardboard letter to your liking and then insert the battery powered lights included to make your own light up letter or word. They would be so much fun for a party! We were lucky enough to take home a letter each so I look forward to decorating my “R” and perhaps purchasing a C,_,E,A,T,E to make my own word for my craft room.
It was a lovely event and I’m so glad I made the effort to make another new dress out of Spotlight fabric to wear as it was commented upon. Thank you Spotlight for all the crafty items in our goody bags, there are a lot of different crafts to explore.
If you’d like to get involved in National Craft Month there will be activities taking place at various Spotlight Hub Stores (which I’ve listed below) throughout the month. Join in some in-store craft classes, create a free project, see an international guest like Heidi Swapp or Amy Tangerine as well as special discounts and bargains that will be exclusive to the event.

VIC – Frankston, Fountain Gate, Maribyrnong & Bayswater
NSW – Lidcombe, Penrith, Queanbeyan

TAS – Hobart, Launceston & Burnie

I know I’m going to pop along to some events in NSW and it should be easy for me seeing as I shop at Spotlight all the time!
