With 4 children of my own I’m always on the lookout for great knitting patterns so when I was contacted to give the Vivacious Kids pattern book review on my blog I was very interested to take a look.
While taking a look at a pattern book is great way to see if you like the styles etc. however to really see what a pattern is like I feel you have to knit it! I wanted to see how easy the instructions were to follow and how the pattern would turn out so I decided to test something from the book. I chose this cute hat pattern called “Jack Be Nimble” which is knitted up in 4ply yarn. Luckily I had some 4ply Morris & Sons Estate yarn on hand and set to work knitting up the medium sized hat.
Knitting in 4ply takes a bit longer however it gives a lovely fine look to the stitches. The pattern was easy to follow and very clear instructions were given. No problems there and I love how the crown turned out. The hat is pretty stretchy and actually fits both my 8 & 6 year old.
The Vivacious Kids pattern book contains 7 knitwear patterns for children aged between 2 and 10 and are all shown knitted up in Fibrespates Vivacious DK an 4 ply yarns.
I’ve never knitted with this yarn before so can’t really comment too much on it. The colours and slight variegations are beautiful and suit the stylish, fuss free knitwear patterns in this book. They have a really earthy, natural look to them. After doing a bit of browsing on Ravelry at the Fyberspates yarn I was a bit concerned to read that some customers were having dye come off on their hands. Those comments dated back to a year ago so hopefully they have fixed this issue with the yarn.
Vivacious Kids pattern book contains patterns for 3 garments and 4 accessories, designed by Ella Austin and Rachel Coopey. There is a sweater, button up hoody, dress, socks, mittens and two hat patterns.
I love this pattern called “Snip-snap-snorum sweater” and the yellow colour it is knitted up in is stunning especially on this redheaded model.
You can purchase Vivacious Kids as an ebook on Ravelry using an exclusive discount code I have to offer you. Use the code – VivCraftsmumship to receive 25% off the book or any of the single patterns from now until the 1st of August.
These patterns look great showing off some beautiful hand dyed yarn. The designs are classic therefore will not date easily which is what you want with hand knitted garments. When you take the time to knit up a garment it’s great if it can be passed down and worn by several family members.
Do you have some family members who’d love one of these patterns knitted up for them? It is the perfect knitting weather today it’s freezing!
N.B. I was gifted a copy of Viviacious Kids Pattern Book to review however all opinions in this review are my own.
