Fairy Lights Crochet Necklace

Fairy Light Crochet Necklace

Ever wanted or needed to really “Shine” at a fancy dress party? I was recently faced with this challenge for the ProBlogger 2015 blogging conference that I attended recently as the networking party theme was exactly that – SHINE

So what does a crafty blogger do for a party like this? She crochets around some fairy lights to make a necklace that actually shines of course!

I had remembered seeing some battery operated fairy lights at Typo so made a late night trip there to pick up these cute gem shaped fairy lights.

Louisa Harding Glisten Yarn

Being stuck at home with sick children the week before the conference I had to choose some yarn I already had and thought that this Louisa Harding “Glisten” yarn would add a bit of extra shine with the metallic threads to my necklace project.

Using a 4mm crochet hook I simply crocheted around the cord with 21 single crochets in between each light whilst leaving some plain cord at the end to enable me to hide the battery pack in my bra. To finish it off I just threaded the ends in through my work and it was that simple.

It was so much fun to wear this necklace and made talking to complete strangers and networking a lot easier. I have a bit of a history of making things for the conference party. One year I crocheted a hibiscus flower for my hair and even made one for a favourite creative blogger in case she wanted to wear it for the Tropicana themed party. Probably lucky Pip didn’t attend this year otherwise I might have made her one of these light up necklaces!

Funny I was so glad that my little crochet fairy lights made it through the airport. While I was waiting in the extremely long airport line I did imagine how it might have been a bit dodgy and bomb looking in my luggage. You know the metal cords and all but luckily it didn’t seem to be an issue. That would have made a great story for the blog though!
