We’re going a bit nuts for gingerbread this year. Well actually it’s one of our favourite things to make every Christmas and to prove it you will find quite a few “gingerbread” posts on the blog already.
Maybe you missed the cute oven baked clay gingerbread men tutorial I created for The Organised Housewife last month. They are a fun craft you can do with the kids and you can either use them as a Christmas tree decoration or as a gift tag on a present. You can find the full tutorial here.
Plus last year I turned my gingerbread baby reindeer photographs into a free downloadable gift tag which you can find here.
This cute crochet gingerbread man pattern is by Sarah from Repeat Crafter Me and was saved to Pinterest in the hope that by the time Christmas came around I’d actually have some time to make some of the hundreds of things pinned to my boards over there. You can add eyes, a mouth and buttons however I’ve just kept these ones plain.
The yarn was some Patons Cotton 8ply from Spotlight however any yarn from your stash in the right colour would work. Sarah uses a lighter golden brown but I was trying to use something from my stash so used this darker brown which I quite like as it shows up the contrasting white “icing” surface slipstitching really well.
It’s an easy pattern to make and to memorise so before you know it you’ll be making crochet gingerbread men in your sleep. I’m not sure if they will become Christmas decorations or if I’ll use them to tie to the top of some special teacher gifts I’m making.
There is still time for your to hook a few of these up if you want to and maybe you could even use them at your Christmas Dinner table as a decoration around the serviettes. I’ll share some pictures later of how we put these to use but I wanted to show you how cute they are in case you wanted to make some for yourself before it’s too late.
I’ve seen others on Instagram making Christmas trees too. What Christmas decorations do you like to make? I’d love you to share some patterns you’ve found and love.
Happy Christmas crafting!
