If you’re looking to make a handmade gift for your Mum this Mother’s Day then this might just be the perfect project. This stunning knitted necklace pattern is called Petarli and is by the very talented knitwear designer Ambah O’Brien.
I have knitted 6 of Ambah’s patterns now and have another on my needles and more in my wish to knit list. The first pattern of Ambah’s that I discovered was actually a knitted bangle pattern which I made as Christmas gifts a couple of years ago.
This knitted necklace pattern also makes a fantastic gift and when I found a small sample of this yellow Skien Top Draw Socks yarn in my stash I decided it would help me make the perfect gift for a crafty pal on her birthday.
Blocking the lace is pretty important with this project and it gives it the lovely shape which shows off the lace beautifully. I’m so glad I never threw out these foam alphabet puzzle squares when my babies grew up as they make the perfect blocking matts. You can find them in the kids section at Target or Big W and they don’t cost much. The great part is that you can fit the puzzle pieces together in different configurations so that it fits the knitting project you are blocking perfectly. These “T” pins are also a great help and I must buy some more of them. Recently I used normal pins to block a project as I didn’t have enough T pins and when I went to use them the other day I realised they all had rust spots on them now! Oh well lesson learnt and now I have to buy some new sewing pins.
I haven’t seen it photographed on someone so hopefully I will see a picture of my friend wearing it one day. It would look great with black as it really makes the golden yellow tones pop.
This perfectly cute little button is used to close the back of the i-cord necklace. I love it when you find the perfect use for a solo button from your button jar.
This is such a rewarding and fun knitting pattern that I’m sure I’ll make again as it’s perfect for using up leftover yarn from a project. Why don’t you knit one for Mother’s Day!
Would your mum wear one of these? Which is your favourite Ambah pattern? Which of her patterns have you knitted before?
